The building, designed by architect Siza Vieira is surrounded by the Serralves Park (about 3.5 hectares), where works of art by various contemporary artists are on display. The gardens are filled with typical flora of the northern region of Portugal, as oak, birch and yew. The Museum is already considered an international reference in its area, with regard to contemporary art exhibitions. In the permanent collection of the museum, the visitor will be presented with works of many prominent artists made since the late 60's up to today.
