The Clérigos Tower when completed in 1763 was the highest tower in Portugal. It is a remarkable Baroque building, designed by Italian architect Nicolau Nasoni, who also designed the adjacent church. Classified as a National Monument in 1910, the view of Oporto at its top is spectacular, with the city on one side and the beach to the other.
